Obituary. National Banner & Nashville Whig, March 27, 1837

Hendrick Norvell (born September 29, 1808 – died March 18, 1837) was the son of Lt. Lipscomb Norvell, a Revolutionary War officer of the Virginia Line, and Mary Hendrick Norvell. On April 1, 1828, he entered the United States Navy as a Midshipman and became a passed Midshipman (Ensign) on June 14, 1834. He was first assigned to the US sloop Vandalia and then the US schooner Enterprise. In 1835, the Enterprise undertook a six month voyage to Siam and the Orient; during this voyage he became ill. As a result, he became an invalid and unable to perform his duties. He died on March 18, 1837, of consumption at the residence of his brother, Joseph Norvell, Editor of the Nashville Whig newspaper, in Nashville.
