“The Lieutenant was carried to the second story of the Nelson House (the leading hotel in Maury County) and given the best room; it was on the west room, opening on a narrow verandah… The remains were removed and buried in the family lot at the old City Cemetery.
A plain headstone has this simple lettering:

July 12, 1840
Died
June 26, 1863”
