Tennessee State Library and Archives has a collection entitled “Lawrence Family Papers 1780-1944” which are available on microfilm. Dr. Lawrence came to Tennessee soon after 1809 and practiced medicine first in Carthage, later in McMinnville and then in Nashville. He served as Surgeon with the 3rd Regiment of Tennessee Militia in the War of 1812. His son Dr. John M. Lawrence married Rachel Jackson, granddaughter of Andrew Jackson. There are connections with the Hayes, Acklen and Walton families.
