History
Aunt Matilda died at “Polk Place,” Nashville, the home of President and Mrs. James K. Polk. Aunt Matilda and President Polk both died of cholera.

They were buried at City Cemetery five days apart. President Polk was buried on the Felix Grundy lot. Aunt Matilda was buried in the Negro ground. Her tombstone was identified in the survey of Sections, Lots and Tombstones in 1908 by F.R.R. Smith.
