Lantern Tour After Dark: Murder & Mystery—Part 2

This tour will also tell the stories of some of the cemetery’s residents who either met or caused untimely ends.  The people discussed on this tour will be different than the October 14th tour.  This tour begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration and tickets are required. Tickets can be purchased at $25 per person through Eventbrite here or at the link below.

  • Nimrod Lowery was walking home one night when two men stopped him and demanded his money. When he didn’t have any, they threw him over the suspension bridge.
  • Johnnie Burnett was described as a “friendless boy” who fell in love with an infamous madame. When another man challenged him for the woman’s affection, Burnett came out on the losing end.
  • Isaac Spotswood was born in Pennsylvania, but he moved to Nashville with his wife and five children. He settled in for a quiet life as a chairmaker, until he crossed paths with Richard Lepford.
  • Shelton Garrett was passing an evening in a bawdyhouse when a man named Henry ended his life.
  • John Young Phillips was a 14-year-old newsboy from an upstanding family who said the wrong thing to the wrong person.
  • Flossie Cable Steele had a tumultuous marriage to Albert, and the couple separated. They still parented their six children, until Albert became violent. WARNING: THIS HISTORY WILL DISCUSS A SPECIFIC PERSON’S EXPERIENCES WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.  THIS MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR SOME, AND THE TOUR OFFERS THE OPTION TO EXIT PRIOR TO THIS STOP.
