Four Score And Ten
A Remarkable Old Lady Dead – Born the Christmas in This Century
Mrs. Nancy Forbes died early yesterday morning in her 90th year at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Morse, No. 1133 North Front Street.
Mrs. Forbes was born in South Carolina on Christmas Day 1800 and had consequently seen nearly nine decades of the present century. She came to Nashville sixty-five years ago and saw it grown from a little village into a city. She was a woman with excellent qualities and a wonderful constitution and was never seriously ill in her life until few months ago when she took to her bed from the feebleness incident to old age. She always led an active life and her mind was strong and clear to within a few weeks of her death. She could see as well as most persons at 25. She was skilled to a remarkable degree in needlework and during her long and useful life made many beautiful silk quilts, a number of which she left with her daughters. Her four children – Mrs. Elizabeth Morse and Mrs. Ann Doyle, of this city, Wm. Forbes of Sparta, and Richard Forbes of St. Louis – all survive her. She also leaves eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The funeral will occur from Mrs. Morse’s residence at 1:30 o’clock this afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. J.R. Winchester.
