Nashville American, October 6, 1895 In the lovely Bird’s Nest Cottage lived Mrs. Clara Marling-Cole, a poetess of more than local fame. She was the mother of Hon. John L. Marling, the brilliant young Democrat, who, while, editing The American, was shot in an encounter with his rival editor of the Banner, Felix K. Zollicoffer. Mrs. Cole gave her poems to the world in book form in 1862. CLICK HERE for more information |
