and died at Nashville
where he had resided
60 Years
March 8, 1844
Aged 84

Of a stern but virtuous &
Inflexible nature and full
Of the purest benevolence
He enjoyed all his lengthened
Days, a veneration &
Confidence of the community
And went down to the grave,
Crowned with honors as he
Was covered with Years.
