Hon. Robert Whyte
Born in Wigtonshire
Scotland
On
the 6th day of
January 1767
And
died at Nashville
On
the 12th day of
November 1844
Aged 77 Years and
10 Months

 

He was
for more than half his life
a member of the Fraternity
of Free and Accepted
Masons, and filled under
the Grand Lodge of
North Carolina
some of the highest
offices of the Order.

Early in life he emigrated to the
United States
And for several years filled the
Chair of Professor of Language
in the College of William and
Mary  in the State of Virginia.

From Virginia he removed to
North Carolina where he entered
in the practice of law and
thence to the State of Tennessee
and soon after was appointed one
of the Judges of the Supreme
Court of Errors and Appeals
an office which he sustained
with dignity and ability and  
gained the reputation of
an able jurist and
upright judge.

In private life he was remarkable
for the integrity of his character
and the domestic virtues which
grace the Husband
And Father.

A member of the Baptist church.
His course of life gave evidence
of the depth and sincerity of
his belief
and its calm and peaceful close
proved that death had lost its sting.
